Seventh book in series about Hue released

HUE CITY — The Thuan Hoa Publishing House has published a book on Hue's history and culture from the 16th to 19th centuries.

Nghien Cuu Hue (Research on Hue) is the seventh in a series of books aimed at showcasing the ancient city and its people to the world, the book's chief compiler, cultural researcher Nguyen Huu Chau Phan, said.

The first was published in 1999 and the final one in the series is expected to be released next year.

Hair show to show stylists' knowledge of the people

HA NOI — A hair show on Saturday, by Viet Nam Davines Group and Dep Magazine, will focus on Vietnamese preference for long and shining hair, show organisers said.

Only Vietnamese hair stylists would participate at the show, instead of foreign stylists as was the case in the past, said Davines Viet Nam general director Nguyen Anh Tu, "because they know their country's culture and people."

However, show director Le Vu Long said: "For me, rules are made to be broken. The whole performance will be fully attuned to Vietnamese people, based on the minimalist concept."

Hair stylist Justin Manh, who styled for the Sao Mai singing contest 2008, said it was an honour to be invited to take part in the show, and he would create a new style to suit the Vietnamese.

The show will be held in Giang Vo Exhibition and Trade Fair, Ha Noi.

Bridal accessories to be showcased at Sheraton fair

HCM CITY — An annual exhibition of bridal accessories will be held at the Sheraton Sai Gon Hotel&Towers in HCM City early next month.

The exhibition, to held by the hotel in partnership with event organiser Babi Co on August 7-8, will offer a one-stop shop for wedding essentials, from make-up and hair design to floral displays and photographers.

Showcasing their wares will be Hong Ty Ao Dai, Hanh Phuc Vang Bridal Shop, Thai Tai gown, P&T, Milano, Venus, A Soen, Rosano Design Architects, UNIQUE Jewellery, Gia Gia Jewellery, Le Hang Crystal.

On both days there will be fashion shows presented by famous designers showcasing the latest bridal season at 3pm and 7pm.

German auto maker BMW will display its latest BMW 5 Series at the wedding expo and there will be lucky draws throughout the day, lucky door prizes, and entertainment presented by popular singers and dancers.

Philippine band rocks out at HCM City hotel

HCM CITY — The Jamm'n Essence Band from the Philippines is performing on weekend evenings at the Atrium Cafe in the HCM City-based Legend Hotel.

The four-member band comprises Jhoy, the female lead vocalist, sequencer and keyboard player, and vocalists Aijo, Maria Mahal, and Norwin.

They have a wide repertoire that includes R&B, pop, Latin beat, love songs, rock, and jazz.

They will perform until the end of September. — VNS
