HA NOI — Photographs depicting the beautiful seascapes and islands of Viet Nam, islanders’ daily life and marine economic activities are featured in an exhibition that opened on December 14 in Ha Noi.

The exhibition, titled Homeland’s Sea and Islands, displays 150 photos from the archives of the Vietnam News Agency (VNA) and the Vietsovpetro, a joint venture between Viet Nam and Russia.

The photos are among thousands of works by generations of VNA journalists, who have travelled across the country to capture moments of life both in war and in peace, and staff of the Vietsovpetro, an enterprise for oil and gas exploration in Viet Nam’s sea territory.

The exhibition takes visitors on a visual tour to different seas and islands from the north to the south. Stops include Ha Long Bay, Diep Son Island, Nam Du Island, Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago and the Bach Ho oil field in Ba Ria – Vung Tau Province.

Highlights are images depicting soldiers guarding the Truong Sa (Spratly) Archipelago and children eagerly heading to school in the islands. The journalists also caught moments of fishermen pulling in their nets in the early morning and bustling fish markets at the end of the day, among many other scenes.

“The exhibition aims to pay tribute to the people who have sacrificed their lives to protect the seas and islands of the country,” said Le Quoc Minh, deputy general director of the Vietnam News Agency.

“The exhibition highlights the potential of Vietnamese marine resources in social and economic development, as well as the achievements of the army and people in the fields of politics, economics, culture, society, security and national defence.”

Through the exhibition, the organiser want to raise people’s awareness of the importance of the national seas and islands, and to always maintain the spirit of protecting national sovereignty. The exhibition will run until December 20 at the Vietnam News Agency headquarters, 5 Ly Thuong Kiet Street, Ha Noi. — VNS
