HCM City — "From far away, we conquer the new land with sword in hand. The memory of Thang Long constantly remains in our heart," reads the folk poem The Memory of Thang Long.

The memory of Ha Noi has become the topic of a photo contest sponsored by the Nestle's Nescafe brand of coffee, the Viet Nam Association of Photographic Artists, and the popular photography website www.vnphoto.net.

Ha Noi is full of unforgettable images, from the ancient Thap Rua (Tortoise Tower) in Hoan Kiem Lake to the mossy walls of the Temple of Literature with its standing stone steles commemorating the nation's most brilliant scholars.

The contest gives photographers a venue to share their memories and thoughts about these images of Ha Noi, said the contest organisers.

Cash prizes would be awarded, including a VND10 million first prize, VND7 million second prize, VND5 million third prize, and five consolation prizes worth VND1million each.

A writing contest is also being launched on Nescafe's website cungtrochuyen.com.

The contests were a meaningful activity to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the capital city, said Nestle marketing director Sakulborrirug Chaiyong.

A thousand photos would be auctioned off to raise an estimated VND200 million, which would be contributed to a scholarship fund at the Culture College of Ha Noi.

Bidders in the auction would also have an opportunity to buy a Nescafe lacquer box designed to symbolise the three historical periods of Thang Long – Dong Do – Ha Noi, said Chaiyong.

Contest entries would be accepted online through September 15 at vnphoto.net. — VNS
