Tay Ho Restaurant lets diners get a taste of Canada

HA NOI — The Don's Tay Ho Restaurant off Xuan Dieu Street in Ha Noi has begun a plan to promote Canadian cuisine.

The Great Taste of Canada event runed yesterday to April 10.

Canadian Ambassador Deborah Chatsis said she was proud and delighted to be able to offer Hanoians an opportunity to experience the finest food from Canada.

"I hope Vietnamese gourmets will enjoy the great quality of Canadian cuisine from the pristine oceans and pastures of Canada," she said.

"Canada has all the crucial requirements to supply Viet Nam with quality agriculture products and beverages. It has a clean environment, world-class agricultural practices and high standards of food inspection and hygiene. We want delicious, safe, healthy Canadian foodstuffs and beverages to become part of the modern Vietnamese fine-dining culture and lifestyle," she said.

Later in the year, Canadian food will also be promoted in HCM City.

Fourth Viet Nam Folklore Festival kicks off in Central Highlands

DAC NONG — The fourth Viet Nam Folklore Festival in the Tay Nguyen (Central Highlands) area and southern province of Binh Phuoc kicks off today.

Seventy artists from ethnic minorities such as the Ba Na, E De, Gia Lai, Mo Nong from five provinces of Dac Nong, Lam Dong, Kon Tum, Dac Lac, Binh Phuoc will participate. Twenty-two folk songs will be performed.

The festival is held every two years in co-ordination with the Viet Nam Television Centre in Da Nang City and Dac Nong Province with the intention of uncovering original folk songs and discovering new talents.

The closing ceremony will broadcast live on VTV2 and VTV4 on Sunday.

War veterans to meet students at Military History Museum

HA NOI — Viet Nam Museum of Military History will host an exchange programme for war veterans and students tomorrow.

Visitors will be able to learn about previous generations' war experiences and their struggle to repel invaders.

Among the war veterans attending the event will be 70-year-old Nguyen Bang Phi. He lost a leg during fighting in 1966. While recuperating in hospital, he fashioned an artificial leg from a grenade launcher.

"I could only think about returning to the battlefield to join my comrades," he said.

After fashioning the prosthetic, he approached his superiors about his plan to make artificial limbs for other wounded soldiers. With the help of his companions, he made hundreds of legs for his comrades.

The programme will be broadcast live on Ha Noi Television at 8.30pm.

Lua Viet offers $1 Sai Gon River tours for students, factory workers

HCM CITY — The Lua Viet Tourism Company and Ben Nghe Tourism Boat has a special Sai Gon River tourism programme for students and workers for the unbelievable price of VND20,000 (US$1) person.

Southern schools, universities, factories and enterprises can join the programme every morning, which caters for 500 – 900 persons each trip.

Tour guides will talk about the history of the river and HCM City and organise fun games.

Insurance and drinking water for the three-hour trip is included in the price.

"This is a fun and informative package for students and workers, who can't afford an expensive river tour," Nguyen Van My, director of the Lua Viet Toruism Company, said.

Organisers plan 60 trips from now to the end of the year and will serve meals or stop along the way if customers require. — VNS
