HA NOI — The men’s table tennis team of Hai Duong and the women’s team of HCM City progressed into the semi-finals of the ongoing national Table Tennis Masters tournament 2018 in matches held late Wednesday in northern Hai Duong Province.
In order to create more opportunities for young players, this year’s tournament increased its fields from 16 to 20 players in each men’s and women’s category. Each category is divided into two groups.
The winners of each group qualify for the semi-finals.
The nation’s top two players Nguyen Anh Tu from Ha Noi and Mai Hoang My Trang from HCM City both were absent from the tournament with hand injuries.
On the men’s side, hosts Hai Duong are at an advantage with three of their players topping the two groups.
In Group A, Vu Quang Hien won six matches. Top players Nguyen Duc Tuan and Doan Ba Tuan Anh won five matches and lost one.
In the women’s team Group A, top players Nguyen Thi Nga from Ha Noi has six wins and two loses to Pham Da Thao and Dinh Thi Hue from Hai Duong, while Phan Hoang Tuong Giang from the Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has six wins.
In Group B, Nguyen Khoa Dieu Khanh from HCM City leads with six wins and one loss, followed by Pham Thi Thien Kim of MPS, Bui Ngoc Lan from Hai Duong, Nguyen Thi Phuong Linh from T&T Ha Noi and Dinh Thi Hang from Hai Duong. — VNS
